Musculoskeletal and Sports Therapy
We often place our musculoskeletal system under intense pressure, especially if we do a repetitive activity or take part in strenuous activity. Whilst for the most part this complex arrangement of bone, cartilage, muscle, ligaments, tendons and soft tissue can bend, stretch and flex to accommodate movement, musculoskeletal injuries can occur.
Injuries can vary in severity and musculoskeletal pain can be anything from a minor twinge to debilitating agony. In order to ascertain the extent of your injuries you will need a musculoskeletal assessment of your pain and/or injury.
Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy includes a musculoskeletal physiotherapy exam. Then your physio will then be able to use a number of skills that can include manual therapy, acupuncture, massage and design a rehabilitation programme to aid your recovery.
The Role of a Sports Physiotherapist?
The aim of sport physiotherapy is to identify the sport injury and work with you to restore your body to full health and back to sport. To do this, the sport physiotherapist will devise a recovery plan that includes numerous musculoskeletal physical therapy tools, as above including sport injury massage, rehabilitation exercise, dietary plans and more. The treatment will be more sports specific.
Musculoskeletal physiotherapy and sports physiotherapy can often be a lengthy process, as injuries can take a long time to heal properly. The extent of your injuries can only truly be ascertained by a number of thorough musculoskeletal exams, so you are advised not to attempt any strenuous exercise or rehabilitation until the extent of your injuries is known.
