Osteoporosis programmes
After the age of 35 bone loss increases gradually as part of the ageing process. Having osteoporosis does not mean that your bones will break but means your bones are more susceptible to fracturing. Particular areas of the body susceptible to osteoporosis and therefore more susceptile to fracture are the hips, wrists and spine.
In the spine the bones can become compressed and fracture because of their reduced strength and this can lead to your posture tipping forwards. If fractures are in a number of the spine bones this can lead to losing your height and problems with indigestion and incontinence due to the pressure on the internal organs.
Aims of our osteoporosis programmes
- reducing the risk of a fall
- improve balance and coordination
- improve muscle strength, flexibility, breathing and posture
- improve mobility
- increasing confidence and wellbeing
- reducing and controlling your pain
- helping with slowing down the changes to your shape that can occur with osteoporosis
We will carry out an extensive initial assessment measuring all the above. A programme will then be developed to address your individual needs and follow up sessions arranged in discussion with your therapist.
