NHS Care Homes
Physiocomestoyou Ltd provides physiotherapists, occupational therapists and speech & language therapists that can come and see you in your care home.
What is care home occupational therapy?
Occupational therapists can help people continue with activities of daily living and routines that give a person their identity. Often people in care homes are not stimulated enough and left with minimal things to do if suffering from health care complications. Occupational therapists can help with assistive technology, cognitive stimulation, dementia and providing a safe environment within the care home.
Why do I need physiotherapy in home care?
Staff often are incredibly busy in care homes and therefore may not have the time to encourage mobility in older people as much as would be beneficial to them. This can lead to people becoming stiff, weak, less mobile and at worst bed bound.
How does care home physiotherapy help?
Physiotherapists can help regain and improve mobility again, provide walking aids, improve strength and flexibility with exercise, prevention of falls, coordination and improving daily function. When people are in care homes they often become less mobile and weaker. Care home staff are often very busy therefore not having the time to encourage walking and moving around. Our physiotherapists can help to keep mobility and strength at its maximum and regain any that may have already been lost. Physiotherapists can also visit you at the carehome after an operation or fall and get your rehabilitation going and get you back on your feet as quickly as possible.
Does the NHS cover physiotherapy?
Due to exhaustive NHS costs the NHS will cover physiotherapy sometimes but usually there are long waiting lists and the appointments are very short and not frequent.
How can care home occupational therapy help me?
An occupational therapist can help with providing tools that help make it possible and easier to carry out activities of daily living. This may mean sorting grab rails, ramps, devices to help dress and wash. They can also help with and advise on the best wheelchairs and fit them to you.
How can care home speech and language therapy help me?
A speech and language therapist can help people who are having difficulty swallowing or speaking. They can also advise on devices that help communication and other ways of communication if speaking not possible.
